ABOUT

At OMB, our unwavering commitment to fresh, pure, premium quality beer isn’t just a marketing slogan. It’s our way of life. Beer is like bread – similar ingredients, same need to be served as fresh as possible. As OMB’s founder says, “Not everything can be made local, but beer can and should be. Local beer is fresh beer, and fresh beer is better beer.” That’s why you’ll also never see OMB sitting “out” at room temperature; all beer should be kept cold to maximize freshness. Our beer is filtered, packaged and delivered fresh and cold every week in our own refrigerated delivery trucks. OMB also strictly adheres to the oldest beer purity law in the world – the renowned German “Reinheitsgebot” which states that beer should only contain 4 ingredients: water, malt, hops and yeast. So that’s all we use at OMB – no wacky flavors, cheap ingredients, or added colors, and absolutely, positively NO SHORTCUTS. This commitment to purity extends to our packaging materials (glass and PET) and traditional brewing methods. If you want to brew world class beer, you’ve got to use the best ingredients and sweat the details; and you can’t let time or money get in the way. Our goal is to do whatever it takes to deliver the highest quality, freshest beer imaginable to the Charlotte region. You can call us control freaks. You can call us obsessed. You’d be right on both counts. But when you taste our beer, we think you’ll agree that it’s totally worth it. Prost!

Thanks to our friends at 106.5 FM, we also hold contests for tickets to private acoustic concerts at OMB’s Brauhaus. Past performers at these “ALTbier Sessions” include: Portugal. The Man, AWOLNATION & Nothing But Thieves.

BUYING BEER

Do you sell growlers?

We do. We have 37 oz growlers. Initially, you buy the growler bottle and the beer. When you return with your empty growler, we swap it for a full one and you only pay for the beer (similar to how propane tank programs work). We don’t refill your dirty (er, rinsed) growler at the bar (ick!). We thoroughly clean all returned growlers in the brewery using our $70,000 professional growler cleaning machine (the only one in the country!). This way, a dirty growler won’t taint the taste of our beer or your beer-drinking experience. We then refill the cleaned growlers professionally on our bottling line, with fresh beer of course.

Do you sell kegs?

We do sell kegs out of the Brauhaus. The kegs come in two sizes. **All deposits are refunded when the equipment is returned!

  • 20L Keg – holds approximately 42 pints
    • $100 keg deposit
    • $60 tap deposit (if you need a tap)
    • $20 tub deposit (if you need a tub)
    • $75  Copper Altbier and Captain Jack Pilsner
    • $80 Hornets Nest Hefeweizen
    • $80 seasonal brew
    • $110 Fat Boy Baltic Porter (high-gravity brew)
  • 50L Keg – holds approximately 105 pints
    • $100 keg deposit
    • $60 tap deposit (if you need a tap)
    • $20 tub deposit (if you need a tub)
    • $150 Copper Altbier and Captain Jack Pilsner
    • $155 Hornets Nest Hefeweizen
    • $155 seasonal brew
    • $220 Fat Boy Baltic Porter (high-gravity brew)

Why don’t you put your beer in cans?

OMB produces its beer in strict accordance with the Reinheitsgebot beer purity law, which means our beers are all-natural, with no chemical additives or preservatives. We strive to ensure that our beer is always cold, fresh and unaltered in any way. Aluminum cans do possess some advantages in certain venues (stadiums, boats, beach, golf courses) due to concerns over broken glass associated with bottles.

Unfortunately, cans are lined with an epoxy resin to prevent the aluminum from reacting with the alcohol in beer. This liner contains a chemical called Bisphenol A (BPA), a known endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC) (see this link for more information on EDC’s – http://www.niehs.nih.gov/health/topics/agents/endocrine/).

A Canadian Government Study* regarding BPA in beer and soft drinks, published in 2010, detected BPA in 100% of the canned beer they sampled. The study found no BPA in any of the bottled beer it analyzed. The science on whether or not this exposure to BPA has any significant health effect is unsettled. This is beside the point however since it is OMB’s goal to produce pure, all-natural beer without chemical additives.

To us, we see no reason to put our beer in a package which we know will leach chemicals into the beer, especially when there are alternative packages available that will not adulterate the beer at all. Bottles made of glass or PET are totally inert, and therefore do not affect the taste or chemical makeup of our beer. They are also 100% recyclable.

And, since the vast majority of beer purchased in packages is consumed at home, concerns over broken glass are not significant. OMB is willing to forgo beer sales if it means preventing our beer from being adulterated by its package.
